What's in Your Box? Introduction to Woodworking

Grant Amount: $51,019
Date In Effect: 2025-2026 School Year
Schools Impacted: West Side and Lloyd Harbor Elementary Schools

The What's in Your Box? program introduces fourth-grade students to woodworking through hands-on learning that integrates science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). Students learn to safely use tools, measure materials, interpret plans, and construct their own wooden projects.

Working across STEAM, library, and Makerspace classes, the program strengthens problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration while giving students practical experience in design and construction. The grant provides woodworking equipment, curriculum, supplies, and teacher training to establish a sustainable program that can expand to fifth- and sixth-grade students in future years.
